Abstract :
Team sports not only play an important role in entertainment and economy, but they also constitute a rich and challenging test scenario for robust algorithms for real-world video analysis. Some of the challenges are the mutual occlusions and clustering of athletes in oblique views, the visual similarity of teammates, the rapid dynamics of the game, and the unknown camera movement. In this talk I will give an overview of our work at INTELSIG on such scenarios and its application to soccer. The highlights include robust tracking of nonrigid objects under substantial partial occlusions, on-the-fly camera calibration, and multi-cue integration.
