Le workshop se déroule à l'Université de Tokyo, Hongo Campus.

Le Groupement AURA (Association des Unités de Recherche d'Asie) est un groupement du CNRS qui réunit 7 UMIs du CNRS installées en Asie (4 UMIs principalement rattachées à l'INS2I et 3 UMIs, principalement rattachée à l'INSIS). Les unités sont : JFLI, JRL et LIMMS (Japon), MICA (Vietnam), LIAMA (Chine), IPAL et CINTRA (Singapour).

Le workshop AURA est organisé chaque année. Il a été organisé à Hanoi en 2011 par l'UMI MICA et en 2012 à Singapour par l'UMI IPAL. Cette année 2013 il est organisé à Tokyo par l'UMI JFLI.
